Car Rental Damage Policy
This Car Rental Damage Policy explains the responsibilities of renters, how vehicle condition is assessed, and how damage-related charges may be handled when renting through Fin Travels . Our goal is to ensure transparency, fairness, and clear expectations before, during, and after your rental period.
1. Vehicle Condition at Pickup
Each rental vehicle is inspected prior to release. Existing wear, scratches, or cosmetic imperfections may be documented in a condition report or recorded electronically. Renters are encouraged to inspect the vehicle carefully at pickup and report any concerns immediately to avoid disputes upon return.
2. Renter Responsibility During the Rental
From the moment the vehicle is collected until it is returned, the renter is responsible for the care, security, and proper use of the vehicle. This includes responsibility for damage, loss, or theft that occurs during the rental period, regardless of fault, unless limited by an accepted protection plan.
3. Types of Damage
Damage may be classified into the following categories:
- Exterior Damage: Scratches, dents, paint damage, bumper or body panel impact.
- Interior Damage: Burns, tears, stains, odors, or damage to seats and trim.
- Glass & Tire Damage: Cracked or broken windows, mirrors, wheels, or tires.
- Mechanical Damage: Damage caused by misuse, improper fueling, or neglect.
- Total Loss: Severe collision, theft, or irreparable damage.
4. Vehicle Inspection at Return
Upon return, the vehicle is inspected and compared against its recorded condition at pickup. If new damage is identified, documentation such as photographs, inspection notes, and repair estimates may be prepared. Charges may be applied based on the severity and nature of the damage.
5. Damage Charges & Administrative Fees
If damage occurs, the renter may be charged for:
- Actual repair or replacement costs
- Loss of use while the vehicle is unavailable for rental
- Towing or recovery expenses, if applicable
- A reasonable administrative or processing fee
Charges may be deducted from the security deposit or billed to the payment method on file, as permitted by law.
6. Optional Damage Protection
Renters may choose to purchase optional damage protection or insurance products during booking or at pickup. These plans may reduce or limit financial responsibility for certain types of damage, subject to their terms and exclusions. Coverage details should be reviewed carefully before acceptance.
7. Exclusions & Non-Covered Situations
Damage protection plans typically do not cover:
- Damage caused by reckless or prohibited use of the vehicle
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Use by unauthorized or unlisted drivers
- Loss of keys, accessories, documents, or personal items
- Failure to report incidents promptly
8. Accidents, Theft & Emergencies
In the event of an accident, theft, or serious damage, the renter must notify local authorities (where required) and the rental provider immediately. A police report and incident documentation may be required to process claims or limit liability.
9. Disputes & Review Process
If you believe a damage charge has been applied in error, you may submit a written dispute within a reasonable time frame after receiving the final invoice. All disputes are reviewed using available documentation, and a written response will be provided.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by law, Fin Travels is not responsible for personal property left in the vehicle or for indirect or consequential losses related to damage incidents.
